Fuel Price Query Page

UK Fuel Price Repository (Retail Pump Price)

I have been collecting fuel prices since 1990 (originally for taxation reasons but now just because I can). This has provided me with a fascinating data set that is made available here. Typically I would buy fuel at the lowest price available at the time, and using the information here, you can plot the apparently never ending rise in the price of this vital commodity.

The price data itself is expressed in UK pence per litre and includes petrol and diesel prices, depending upon the fuel of the car I drove at the time. The data also includes a monthly FOB spot price, per barrel, of Brent Crude oil (Source: US Energy Information Administration) . This is expressed in USD and provides an interesting comparator for pump prices over the years. The gap between the lines indicates the relative premium that pump prices charge over the raw material cost.

Available datapoints are:
1990 (54), 1991 (77), 1992 (92), 1993 (101), 1994 (99), 1995 (98), 1996 (68), 1997 (92), 1998 (84), 1999 (57), 2000 (42), 2001 (49), 2002 (50), 2003 (79), 2004 (80), 2005 (79), 2006 (92), 2007 (127), 2008 (97), 2009 (77), 2010 (97), 2011 (72), 2012 (60), 2013 (61), 2014 (124), 2015 (109), 2016 (60), 2017 (50), 2018 (71), 2019 (12)

Note that note that data was only collected for the fuel used in the primary vehicle in the household. This means that there will be periods of time where prices for one or other of the types of fuel will not be recorded. When you graph this data, you will see long straight lines with no data points
